LIMA, OH - An area cat is claiming innocence after family members launched a vicious attack on his integrity by accusing him of cheating at Scrabble.
Lickorish has dreams of someday joining the National Scrabble Association, and often plays the popular Hasbro board game with friends and family to practice until he is ready for tournament games. In his free time, he studies an online Scrabble dictionary in order to expand his vocabulary. When he notices two or more of his humans getting out the Scrabble box, he immediately hops over, eager to join in the game.
Mindy Ashton, however, claims that Lickorish has no business at the table. “He’s always moving our tiles around,” she tells reporters. “I turn my head for one second, and tiles are all rearranged! This would never be tolerated in a Scrabble tournament!” Ms. Ashton also accuses the cat of positioning the tiles to make words that do not exist. “He thinks he can get the bonus from using all 7 of his letters, every time. But I’m telling you, AWPZJLE is not a word, in any dictionary!” Other words of dispute include BMPOOIU, EWRTQML, and VCDKJRI.
The cat asserts that his studies of the official Hasbro Scrabble dictionary are far more extensive than Ms. Ashton’s elementary education. As he laid outstretched on a word book, he mewed a long list of difficult words he says that only the most enlightened Scrabble players would know.
This news comes on the tails of the announcement of a Scrabble tournament that will be held at Rhodes State College on February 11. Registration costs are $50 for business, $25 for college teams and those in the Wiliest category, and $10 for individuals. Registration is available by calling 419-223-0252 or David Reedy at 419-995-8049. The tournament will benefit the Northwest Ohio Literacy Council.
