OHIO - Humans are baffled by a cat who dialed a phone and subsequently saved his pet human’s life.
“I was actually trying to call and check up on that life insurance policy I took out on him,” says Tommy, an orange tabby who lives in an apartment in Ohio. “I must have misdialed. I guess I’ll have to wait a little longer for that catnip and tuna motherlode.”
Tommy came to live with his human, who he calls Gary Rosheisen, three years ago because he discovered that the human most likely had a short lifespan and Tommy could be independent again in a short matter of time. The human invited him to use the telephone on several occasions, and even left the phone book open to the “I” section one day, practically inviting the cat to put two and two together.
Rosheisen fell out of his wheelchair near his bed last Thursday night, which caused Tommy to think that the old man finally kicked the bucket. He promptly went to the phone to try and call the insurance company, but dialed 9-1-1 by accident instead. Police later arrived to find Tommy near the phone, trying to remember the right phone number to file a claim.
When the police were asked for their opinion on the situation, Officer Patrick Daugherty responded, “I know, it’s kind of weird.”
