Cat Site of the Week: Catymology

aloysius of catymology

In our travels on the information superhighway (does anyone really call it that anymore?) we have found that there seem to be about 4 different “grades” of sites that are written by felines. We attribute this mostly to falling rates of feline literacy.

The lowest “grade” of literacy yields cats who type in an indistinguishable series of letters and possibly numbers, such as aks9skeeeeeee or wenpppppuyyy. While these words have a meaning that may be perfectly understandable to themselves, it isn’t very enjoyable for the more educated folks out there. These are the kinds of cats found cheating at scrabble.

Then you have cats who write in “cutesy-wutesy speak.” This group of feline writers is relatively well educated in reading and writing and can communicate with just about anyone who they need to speak with. They are friendly, loveable, and send “happy purrfday!” cards to their feline friends.

Next comes the graduated cat, a group of cats declining in number, whose literary capabilities are on-par with the average adult human. Their appropriate grammar skills are evident in almost all that they do. They think “purrfdays” are amusing but will send “birthday” cards to their friends.

Finally, you have the cats who are scholars of Catymology, which is defined as “the science and art of cattitude.” It is rare to find a cat who knows so many 4 and 5 syllable words. In fact, we were told of the official Catymology site a few months ago, but we were hung up on our review for many weeks while we took turns looking up the definitions of words like “amanuensis” and “hudhudious.”

We don’t think we are quite up to the level of a Catymology scholar, but are rather students of it ourselves. We apologize that we can’t fully understand the site, but hopefully there are cats out there who are scholarly enough to comprehend and appreciate the glory of the fourth level of feline literacy.

We hereby yield the Cat Site of the Week to Aloysius Katz, a.k.a. Aloysius Pangur Ban, M.F.A. (Master of Feline Arts).

Cat Site of the Week: The Zeus Excuse

zeus cat

Just when you think you knew everything there is to know about everything (and we know you do), Zeus and his paranoid schizophrenic slave Isis come along and shake things up to make them fresh and new. This catblogging duo give a fresh perspective on a variety of topics, such as mathematics, film, cockroach hunting, and even chakras!

We had already scheduled this fine site to become Cat Site of the Week when suddenly my eyes fell on Zeus’s sparkling composition called, “I hate you, Epi-Otic.” Perhaps it could have been called an Epi-Ode. As a victim of feline allergies myself, I too have been afflicted with numerous experiences with Epi-otic. Zeus now has my complete, unconditional, unreserved, and comprehensive sympathy. My jaw dropped and my heart beat in rhythm with each beautiful syllable of his rhyme. I think I may be in love.

Callas! Focus!

Oh. Excuse me. Where was I?

Yes, the Zeus Excuse was born in April 2006, and is a budding website for cats and by cats, which shows a great deal of potential. It actually features a new and interesting technology which I haven’t seen before: Each post is digitally signed by the author, so that you can be assured of the authenticity of each article originating at the Zeus Excuse site. Incredible. That guy is a genius. A prodigy. A mastermind.

Callas! Get a hold of yourself!

Okay, okay. So as I was saying, the brilliant Zeus also has some interviews that are of worthy note, such as a chat with Toonces, the driving cat (Remember when we covered him?) and Azrael from the smurfs. He has a keen eye on fabulous feline actors and can teach mathematics to a human using tuna as a guide. What can’t this cat do?

We editors of Catnabbit! would like to apologize for the unprofessional nature of this Cat Site of the Week review. We hope to restore Callas to her senses as soon as possible so that she can fulfill her duties as previously scheduled.

P.S. You can find Zeus’s site here:

Cat Site of the Week: Cruxley the Commonsensical Cat

cruxley the commonsensical cat

If every budding cat author could aim for two audiences, there might be a greater peace between cat and man. Cruxley may be a black cat, but consider crossing his path anyway. The world may be a better place for it.

His philosophy hinges on one important concept: common sense. Visitors to Cruxley’s site will discover his educated yet sensible opinions on a number of hot and controversial topics such as TomKat, Bird Flu, Oil, and even a little bit about religion.

We especially liked his “rerun” article about bird flu and cats. There’s a cat in Europe who died, and now cats are being ordered indoors as a result. How silly is that? Why don’t they cage up and isolate all the birds, too? Cruxley sees things for how they really are: another panic about something that will probably amount to nothing. Add checking yourself for bird flu symptoms to talking on the phone while driving down the the road at twice the speed limit and you might actually be in some sort of danger. The message is clear: Relax.

Amidst all the chaos and confusion that plagues the world today, there is at least one cat putting his paw forward to say, “Let’s just stop and think about this for a minute.” Give the cat a paws-up from us!
