Cat Site of the Week: I was NOT named for a cookie!!! RIGHT?

picture of oreo a black and white cat

He may not have been named for a sweet snack, but Oreo certainly is one smart cookie! This unique catblogger is a songwriter and explorer from Hardy, Virginia. He enjoys reading with his momma, sleeping, eating, and killing rodents.

In one entry, the brave Oreo told of his heroic battle - with a 4-foot-long black snake - that was cruelly interrupted by his well-meaning momma. In another, he writes a sensitive ballad about bugs, along with pictures of the objects of his inspiration. Almost every update is adorned with photographic details, such as stories about his adventures outdoors and even his meetings with strange beings such as a giant mouse! True to his feline nature, he also has a bit of a naughty streak, which he is not ashamed to share. You’ll just have to read it for yourself at his site!

Cat Site of the Week: Memoirs of an Empress in Exile

picture of kukka maria tabby cat of memoirs of an empress in exile

Hailing from the kingdom of Michigan, Empress Kukka-Maria is somewhat of an Internet celebrity. She keeps a log recounting the days of her captivity, in hopes that one day she will return to her homeland.

In her website, Memoirs of a Feline Empress in Exile, she talks of her brother Brach and her mother whom one assumes may be a human. She enjoys playing with long cylindrical objects, while her brother Brach likes to play with string. They share a dislike for their human mother but their differences keep Kukka and Brach at odds. There is photographic evidence of Kukka-Maria deliberately putting her brother in his place, which incidentally is out of the spotlight.

The two still maintain a sort of balance which is a delight of which to partake while visiting her website. Sometimes they volley back-and-forth on articles, sharing each their own unique point of view. They also participate in undercover schemes together, or sometimes against one another. Our favorite was the time they took an ad out to give up their mother to another home. The Empress also participates in question-and-answer sessions, satisfying her readers’ thirst for in-depth knowledge about her personal life. With an Empress like that, who needs paparazzi?

Here is a quote of the Empress’s authorized biography:

I am an exiled Feline Empress who was forcibly ripped from my homeland as a wee kitten. My dream is to return to my empire one day and retain my title (along with the splendor and decadence that accompany it). For now, though, I’ll just spend my days napping, bullying my brother, begging for treats from my human captor, and telling my desperate tale on the internet.
