Free Cat Food: Purina 30-day Challenge

Cats everywhere, rejoice! Purina is having a limited-time offer of one bag of free cat food. All participants must do is enter their address and a little bit of personal information such as their favorite foods and describe their body type. Unfortunately, this isn’t part of any test program for the new flavors we’ve previously mentioned, but who doesn’t like free food?

According to labeling, Purina ONE Adult Cat Total Nutrition Salmon & Tuna Flavor [Ed. note: yum!] has 34% protein, 12% fat, 2.5% fiber, 12% moisture, 1.4% linoleic acid, 1% calcium, .9% phosphorus, .3 mg/kg selenium, 11,000 IU/kg vitamin A, 100 IU/kg vitamin E, and .15% taurine. Purina also says that the food includes real salmon & tuna with other easy-to-digest ingredients such as nonfat yogurt. It is also rich in other vitamins and key ingredients that are especially great for a cat’s fur, skin, and immune system. Serving sizes vary from 1/3 cup to 1 cup dry depending on the cat’s body type.

If you aren’t fond of dry food, or you are prone to toothaches like me, then you can still try out Purina ONE dry food (or any dry food for that matter). Just put a small serving amount into a coffee grinder and then mix it up with your canned food. It still smells and tastes great, and you can get the benefits of the added fiber and nutrients that aren’t always found in canned cat food. Our humans also say that this method is less expensive on the budget in the long-run. I’ve been eating my Hill’s Science Diet dry cat food mixed with Whiskas Ground canned cat food like this for a few days and I’m loving it.

If you try the free food from Purina and don’t like it, there are other things you can do with it. For instance, you can conduct feeding experiments on your dog and see what happens. Just stick some in his dish and observe his actions and behaviors afterward. Make sure it’s a dog you don’t like, since cat food isn’t particularly good for dogs. The bag of free food could also be used as a door stop, and with time it may draw insects, which will be quite exciting to chase around the house. Lastly, you can use it to wake up your human in the morning by “shooting” the pellets in his face. You’ll have to be creative with how to apply this method, but spitting it out in his face might be sufficient.

Purina to announce new cat food flavors

ANONYMOUS SOURCE - Purina should soon be announcing a new line of cat foods designed specifically with new and interesting flavors! For over 30 years, finicky cats have been eating the same old drudge of salmon, tuna, turkey, and chicken with a few other flavors tossed in here and there. Those are some great tastes for dinner, but every indoor cat has looked out the window and dreamt about what it might be like to capture and eat something new. Luckily, they may not have to wait much longer. According to an anonymous source, Purina should someday [soon, we hope!] release some all-new exciting flavors which have never been introduced to canned-food before. Dreams may turn into reality as cats everywhere will sink their teeth into Savory Squirrel, Minced Mouse, Blackened Bird, Tangy Toad, and Full-Bodied Fly. Our source says that the major catfood manufacturer has not yet been able to capture the essence of Red Dot or the inside of a shoe. These may be added to the list at a later date.

Hill’s Science Diet Fitness Challenge

FREE FOOD - Hill’s Science Diet is running a promotion which includes a free food sample, and a measuring cup, as a “Thank You” for taking their fitness test and registering on their site. Additionally, registrants will be entered into a contest to win more free food and other goodies, such as a “pet pedometer.”

Yes, it’s true, your human has a pedometer and now you can have one too. It attaches to your collar and measures the activity that you do in a day. Why? Because it’s for your health. According to experts, “just a few pounds” of extra weight can shave “just a few years” off of your life.

Be careful, because if you want to lose weight, you want to do it right. As a cat, we know you aren’t in any danger of becoming one of those crazy “pro-ana” types, who starve themselves and exercise all the time. You’re a cat, and you want to eat and sleep in large quantities. Who can blame you? Well, there are a few ways for felines to lose weight safely, so here they are:

  1. Eat better food. A majority of overweight cats are fat because they eat junk food. Stop eating those cheeseburgers and pizzas that your humans leave out, and stick to some healthy premium cat food.
  2. Don’t snack so much. You can chase the mouse, you can pounce it, you can even kill it. Don’t eat it. Just leave it on your human’s pillow so that he can see what a great job you are doing at becoming more fit. In fact, it might inspire him to do some running around himself.
  3. Watch portion sizes. Instead of eating the whole bowl of cat food, knock the entire bowl out on the floor, making a mess over the kitchen. Then, make a game out of swatting your food all over the place. You can eat whatever stayed in the bowl.
  4. Play more. Who said you have to work hard at losing weight? Cats can lose weight simply by playing! Every game that you know how to play will help you lose weight. Simply calculate exactly how many hours each day you devote to sleeping, and adjust it to allow more time for activities such as rolling the house in toilet paper, shredding magazines, tossing plastic mice under the fridge, and climbing the walls. Be creative, your imagination is the limit.
  5. Be patient. You can safely lose about 1% of your initial body weight each week until you are at a healthy weight. The Hill’s Science Diet website has a calculator to help you find out how much weight you need to lose. If you start to worry about how much weight you’re losing, just sleep it off. You’ll feel better after a nice long nap.

I know, I know, none of us here at Catnabbit! have any room to talk about fitness and weight loss. There’s more of us to love and we’re not too ashamed of it. But, for now we will lay the information on the table and you can take it as you will. Do you want the free food and measuring cup? Then get your paws over to the Science Diet website and register!
