Thinking of going on a trip around the world as part of one of your New Year’s resolutions, or perhaps at least to the veterinarian to get that dreaded well-cat checkup? You might want to add a new carrier to your pre-travel shopping list. If your carrier is more than a couple of years old, you might be missing out on a lot of features that make today’s cat carriers well-worth the added expense!
The Avoir Pet Carrier Case
(Also spelled Avior on some shopping sites) is an innovative solution for the travelling feline. It is made in Italy and it’s available in four colors: Blue, Red, Yellow, and Gray (click for a new window showing the different colors). As a typical hard-case carrier, you get all of the typical protection from flying objects and the accidental jostling around into pointy stiff things (like door handles in cars). Still, there are lots of slots for easy venthilation and you can even peek out to see what’s going on around you. There are two panels in the top, one of which is used to store food or treats to snack on while you are out. The other allows a human to stick his hand in and pet and comfort you during in-motion turbulence, without the risk of you falling out when someone presses the brakes. It also has an integrated safety-belt slot so that you won’t fly through the windshield if there is an accident. These are some incredible features that just don’t come in your standard zip-bag or “plastic box” carrier.

One thing we really, really love about this carrier is that the door hinges on the top, and latches in the front. This means that if you are one of those kitties who has a hard time going into a carrier, you can be lifted and gently placed inside without being stuffed in directly from the top or front of the carrier. Instead, you can just lay inside, then have the door closed above you.
Since the bottom of the Avoir Pet Carrier Case
is hard, we think it might be a good idea to bring along a blanket or some kind of soft liner for the bottom. We like home made quilted blankets, but there are also padded liners available for sale if you aren’t that nimble with your claws.
We measured the Avoir Pet Carrier Case
and it came out to about 22 and a half inches long, 14 and a half inches wide, and 15 inches high. We also measured Subbes, who is 20 lbs and 3 feet long from nose to tail, or 2 feet long from nose to butt, and 1 foot tall from the ground to his shoulders. He barely fits in it without turning his head, but all 3 of the rest of us “normally sized cats” are able to fit inside and move about comfortably. If you want to fly in an airplane with this, you might want to call your airline and check with them about the requirements. For instance, if you want to go in the cabin with your human, this carrier might be a little bit on the large side.

Still not sold on this fabulous case? Take a closer took. Does your carrier have all of these features? Does it even have any of them? This carrier may not be pink or make your pet human go “ohhhhh how cute!!!!” but the safety features are what is absolutely important. Not to mention, the heavy-duty plastic means that it is as durable as it is safe. There aren’t any zippers to tear or snag. You won’t get hurt. Why not get one of these? We want more of them ourselves!
