Confused about which kitty scope applies to you? Just take a look in the mirror, then check the following list to see which describes you best! If you have trouble telling the difference between colors, try asking your pet human (if you have one) since they are usually pretty good at knowing colors. If yours doesn’t know, throw him away and get a new one.
Tabby
All Tabbies have an “M” shape on their foreheads, connecting their eyes. Striped tabbies have stripes on their backs, tails, and/or legs. The stripes sometimes look like spots or are broken up or swirl around . Most commonly, they are brown, blue, red, cream, or silver colored.
Tabby cats might be interested in the spontaneous mutations of mice. They can be found hiding behind curtains or sleeping on top of refridgerators. Never feed spicy chicken to a Tabby.
Ticked Tabby (Abyssinians)
All Tabbies have an “M” shape on their foreheads, connecting their eyes. Ticked tabbies, however, do not have stripes or spots. This marking is most popular among Abyssinian cats, but not all cats with this marking are necessarily Abyssinians.
Ticked Tabby cats enjoy a dominant personality and they are fabulous singers. Never feed cinnamon to a Ticked Tabby.
Torbie
Torbies have the markings of both the Tortoiseshell and the Tabby. They have the M marking on the forehead, but they have the different patches of red, black, and cream colors all over their bodies. They can also have stripes or spots in addition to the patches of color. The patches do not have to be distinct but can be kind of mixed in with the other colors around them.
Torbie cats are sweet-natured, and usually sociable. They enjoy climbing curtains and swinging from ceiling fans. Never feed brussels sprouts to a Torbie.
Tortoiseshell
Tortoiseshell cats have patches all over their bodies in red, black, and cream colors. The patches are not always distinct but can be kind of mixed in with the other colors around them.
Tortoiseshell cats are chronically constipated and foul-tempered. Their favorite prey are reptiles. Never feed jelly beans to a Tortoiseshell.
Calico
Calicos are different from tortoiseshells because they have a lot more white coloring on their bodies. Calicos usually have a lot of white coloring, and then have red tabby patches and solid black patches. They do not necessarily have to have the “M” marking that is typical of a tabby. Some Calicos, called “dilute” calicos, have patches of gray/blue and cream tabby instead of black and red.
Calico cats are independent know-it-alls. Don’t call them, they’ll call you. If you’d like to make a peace offering, they do seem to adore string. Never feed spaghetti to a Calico.
Bi-color
Bi-color cats are half white, half another color.
They enjoy standing on their front legs as much as they enjoy standing on their hind legs. Never feed cole slaw to a Bi-color cat.
Harlequin
Harlequins are mostly white, but have a few large patches of another color.
Harlequins are expert dancers and enjoy writing suspense novels in their free time. Never feed crunchy peanut butter to a Harlequin.
Van
Vans are almost all white, but they have patches of another color on the head and on the tail.
They are also usually fat and lazy. Thus the name “Van,” because they’re as big as one. Never feed a Van to another Van.
Solid
Solid-colored cats have the same color fur over their entire bodies, although black or gray cats might have a smoky effect where the inside fur is especially white.
Solid-colored cats are very chatty, but sometimes others find it boring. Never feed rocky road ice cream to a Solid-colored cat.
Tuxedo
Tuxedo cats are mostly black, but have white patches on the paws, nose, chin, chest and tummy.
They are prissy, snobbish cats that enjoy being told how beautiful they are. Feed a Tuxedo cat: Everything it asks for.
Pointed (Siamese)
Pointed cats are mostly one color, but the color becomes darker at the points of the body, for instance at the nose, the ears, the tail, and the feet. Siamese are the best example of this coloring, but not all pointed cats are Siamese.
Pointed cats like smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. The perfect Christmas gift would be a black beret. Never feed bananas to a Pointed cat.
