FREE FOOD – Hill’s Science Diet is running a promotion which includes a free food sample, and a measuring cup, as a “Thank You” for taking their fitness test and registering on their site. Additionally, registrants will be entered into a contest to win more free food and other goodies, such as a “pet pedometer.”

Yes, it’s true, your human has a pedometer and now you can have one too. It attaches to your collar and measures the activity that you do in a day. Why? Because it’s for your health. According to experts, “just a few pounds” of extra weight can shave “just a few years” off of your life.

Be careful, because if you want to lose weight, you want to do it right. As a cat, we know you aren’t in any danger of becoming one of those crazy “pro-ana” types, who starve themselves and exercise all the time. You’re a cat, and you want to eat and sleep in large quantities. Who can blame you? Well, there are a few ways for felines to lose weight safely, so here they are:

  1. Eat better food. A majority of overweight cats are fat because they eat junk food. Stop eating those cheeseburgers and pizzas that your humans leave out, and stick to some healthy premium cat food.
  2. Don’t snack so much. You can chase the mouse, you can pounce it, you can even kill it. Don’t eat it. Just leave it on your human’s pillow so that he can see what a great job you are doing at becoming more fit. In fact, it might inspire him to do some running around himself.
  3. Watch portion sizes. Instead of eating the whole bowl of cat food, knock the entire bowl out on the floor, making a mess over the kitchen. Then, make a game out of swatting your food all over the place. You can eat whatever stayed in the bowl.
  4. Play more. Who said you have to work hard at losing weight? Cats can lose weight simply by playing! Every game that you know how to play will help you lose weight. Simply calculate exactly how many hours each day you devote to sleeping, and adjust it to allow more time for activities such as rolling the house in toilet paper, shredding magazines, tossing plastic mice under the fridge, and climbing the walls. Be creative, your imagination is the limit.
  5. Be patient. You can safely lose about 1% of your initial body weight each week until you are at a healthy weight. The Hill’s Science Diet website has a calculator to help you find out how much weight you need to lose. If you start to worry about how much weight you’re losing, just sleep it off. You’ll feel better after a nice long nap.

I know, I know, none of us here at Catnabbit! have any room to talk about fitness and weight loss. There’s more of us to love and we’re not too ashamed of it. But, for now we will lay the information on the table and you can take it as you will. Do you want the free food and measuring cup? Then get your paws over to the Science Diet website and register!
