cat chases invisible insect

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY – Cats everywhere are applauding the efforts of Harvey, the maine coon who did what no cat has been able to do before: He caught the elusive invisible insect.

It was a cool autumn afternoon in Newark, where Harvey and his four playmates were participating in a common game that housecats play the world-over. An invisible insect buzzed to and fro between the cats’ heads as paws and fur flew through the air in an attempt to catch it. Two humans looked on and laughed at the five frustrated felines, but Harvey knew better. Today, he was going to catch that thing and show everyone it could be done!

Before they knew it, the insect took off, and the cats scattered as they tore after it. One siamese tom was injured when he hit his head on a doorknob trying to climb up to swat at the taunting, invisible bug. Another ripped a few threads from a perfectly good duvet when he pounced and trampled it, believing he saw the bug fly underneath the blanket. Books and expensive vases were tipped from shelves as the four remaining felines thundered past the insect, who was now weaving in and around every small object in their home.

The chase then took a turn toward the outdoors when a human arrived home and opened the door wide, releasing the insect and its predators into the wild. Finally, Harvey the cat saw his chance: the invisible bug was resting on the leaf of a thorny bush. He dived into the bush, wrapping both of his paws, claws extended, around the insect. The branch gently gave way until Harvey’s back feet landed safely on the ground, and Harvey took the insect in his teeth to present it to his family. He won! He caught the invisible insect at last!

Harvey stated in an interview that he will be mounting the now-deceased insect in a glass case to display as a trophy marking the date of this heroic act.
