NEBRASKA - The serial cat burglar “Snugglepuss” has finally received his sentence on Monday for repeated burglaries of neighborhood cats. On three occasions he snuck in through old-fashioned flap-style cat doors and bit the ears off of sleeping cats, scratched their humans, and made off with their stashes of catnip. Snugglepuss entered a guilty “meow” last week in a plea bargain that would lessen the cat’s sentence to a number of minutes in the bathtub.
The cat burglar will be serving out his sentence in the Nebraska State Bathtub next week. Families of the affected cats will be allowed to attend and view the procedure from behind a two-way mirror, while others will be able to watch it on television. Snugglepuss will also be forced to pay restitution to the families in addition to providing them with enough funds to outfit their homes each with a security system and a petsafe cat door. If he does not comply, he may be forced to continue taking baths until he has paid full restitution.
Outraged feline supporters of Snugglepuss believe that the sentence was too harsh and should have been limited to forcing the cat to return the catnip and pay for any medical fees incurred by the cat’s adventure. Others feel that the sentence may not be enough to deter future incidents. Only time will tell whether this has been an effective plan for both Snugglepuss and his victims.
Police are telling residents that the best way to protect their homes from this sort of problem is to invest in a cat door that can be locked at night or an electronic cat door that uses a sensor placed on the cat’s collar that works as a “key” to allow the cat into his home. These sort of doors prevent unwanted intruders from entering the sanctity of one’s home. They are easy to install and require almost no effort on the part of the cat.

My cat Sara LOVES being in the bathtub! If I fill it with an inch or two of warm water, she’ll jump right in and splash around. Maybe Snugglepuss will find a new activity he enjoys
