KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Florida – Years ago, Stumpy the Cat became a local celebrity among pets and humans alike when he lost two legs and part of his tail due to injuries in an automobile accident. Now, he has stolen the spotlight again after being kidnapped last month.
Dr. Tamara White describes Stumpy as “a really sweet cat,” who hops around like a bunny. He mysteriously disappeared about one month ago without a trace. Although Stumpy’s friend Andy, a ragdoll cat, was a witness to the disappearance, he has not been able to give an accurate description of the kidnapper. Workers at the clinic where Stumpy lived, had no leads, so they tried their best by getting the word out about the missing cat. “Missing Stumpy” flyers were passed out and the local newspaper ran an article about him. Still, nothing turned up until last Friday.
Two women entered the clinic carrying a white kitten and Stumpy, saying that the cats had been left on her doorstep the night before. Without leaving any names, the women vanished during the excitement and commotion surrounding Stumpy’s return. Although Stumpy is safe and still has his remaining two legs, he and the kitten are not giving up any details either. An air of mystery surrounds this incident and the veterinarian would like to know some answers, or at least thank Stumpy’s rescuer properly. At least this recent kidnapping resulted in a happy ending for at least one cat in a recent string of cat abductions including Simon the “Petco cat” from Dallas.
Those who know about Stumpy’s return are being encouraged to call veterinarian Dr. Tamara White at (352) 473-8222 or Clay County Sheriff’s Office Detective Annie Henderson.
