ASHLAND CITY - The human father of a young girl wrote today that his daughter is subjecting a young kitten to torture.
Smokey, the alleged kitten, was brought into the Burtons’ home to act as a roommate for Trixie, an older feline from Memphis. In the past, Trixie has stated explicitly that she does not want to have roommates under any circumstances. Since she has no claws with which to defend herself, she does not feel safe around unknown felines and therefore would prefer to live alone with her pet humans for company. Therefore, all potential roommates have been chased under the couch until they were collected and disposed of outside of the home.
Unfortunately, this time the Burtons brought home a new roommate - with claws. The little guy fights back, and Trixie is in distress. She doesn’t appreciate the new company, but there is absolutely nothing she can do about it. To make matters worse, the Burtons have a six-year-old daughter named Anissa, who constantly tortures both cats. Since Trixie is a larger cat, she is usually able to break free of the child’s grasp, but Smokey the kitten has only his claws on his side. When the child picks him up and tries to treat him like a human baby, he tears at her arms and tries to get away. She also tries to put the kitten in a human’s baby crib, but Smokey usually hops out, claws and teeth bared, running for his dear life.
It is not known whether the kitten will suffer lasting psychological damage from the actions the Burtons have already performed, but it is clear that this is a recipe for disaster. Hopefully, both cats will be able to escape this torture without any permanent injuries.
