NEW YORK - A Brooklyn kitty recently applied for a position as Cat Detective with the New York Police Department. He has already gone on his first job and nabbed a phony veterinarian, and for his efforts the police have awarded Fred the Detective with his own badge, which he wears on his blue collar.
Fred enjoys his new job, however he is very eager to finally discuss terms of payment. Presently, only his basic needs are being cared for, such as food, water, shelter, and of course a 24-hour bodyguard.
Since detectives’ salaries usually start out in the $35k-$45k range, Fred expects full compensation for his duties. There are a large number of animal cases needing investigation, and this feline detective may have to work a lot of overtime. Since he doesn’t have many bills, he wrote in his salary demands that he is willing to accept payment in the form of toys, cat treats, catnip, specialty furniture, floor-to-ceiling scratching posts, 10 karat gold cat food dishes, and a variety of comfortable beds. He’s also interested in designer clothing, sized “small” for his petite kitten stature.
Fred’s claim to fame came when he posed as a patient during an investigation of a college student posing as a veterinarian. 28-year-old Steven Vassall, the suspect, is accused of treating animals without a license. He was reported recently when a dog named Burt Reid, a Boston terrier, suffered after a botched surgery which had to be corrected by a real veterinarian afterward.
The police have not commented on how they plan to meet Fred’s demands.
